High up on a wooded hilltop close to the Somerset-Wiltshire border, this circle is set in some of the most underappreciated scenery in the South West of England. There’s just so much to love here.

The dominant landscape feature is Alfred’s Tower; a 49 metre tall folly completed in the 1870s. The circle sitting in its shadow has, at its centre, a sextuplet motif although its overall design has some echoes of past formations. We like it.

Given the beautiful location we decided to pay a mid-morning visit to the circle on the day after its discovery.

We didn’t go into the field, contenting ourselves with drone footage, as the farmer (or at least someone looking very much the country life fashionista) was stood in the carpark enjoying a cup of coffee and requesting visitors stay out. Fair enough.

Not everyone we saw was so respectful, though some will do whatever it takes to be grounded in a gift from Master Aetherius/The Space Brothers/Ashtar Galactic Command [delete as appropriate]. With minimal footfall we expect the barley will soon stand up and the circle will all but fade away.
