What a peculiar season 2020 has been with barley still in the fields and the wheat now being harvested. Even more unusual is the scale of this formation, above and beyond anything we’ve seen since that very manmade serpent at Inkpen in 2011. Spare a thought for the farmer.

The usual croppie groups on Facebook have been abuzz with debate over the meaning and structure of this one. Is it a molecule? Is it meant to be asymmetrical? Did something go wrong in its construction? It’s fascinating to watch those who think they have all the answers.
